Country Kitchen. Country cabinets include oak or cherry cabinets with the raised panels that are glazed, painted or distressed. These cabinets give natural look to your kitchen because they themselves possess the light natural look which is usually oak or pine. In order to give aged appearance, the country kitchen cabinets are painted white with distressed finishing.
Include a ventilation hood overhead to eliminate smoke, steam and cooking odors if your kitchen island is going to have a cooktop. The range hood should extend beyond the cooking area by 3 inches or more on the sides for proper ventilation. Using the correct fan size will ensure that removal happens as intended. Have a fan capacity of about 50 cubic feet per minute (cfm) for each square foot of cooktop area.
He or she will then need to design the kitchen island counter with the same materials and staining as the rest of the cabinetry and countertops in the kitchen. An island top that is on casters may be appealing to a homeowner who doesn't want to commit to the exact positioning of the island. The countertop can be moved to the end of the kitchen if extra seating is needed or to the middle of the kitchen if extra workspace is needed. A homeowner may also find that he or she can wheel the island into a completely different room if it is needed as extra counter space for craft work or computer equipment.
That is not the case anymore. Ceramic tiles now come in so many colors, sizes, textures, and designs that it is a very good option to give your kitchen backsplash a new vibrant look. Oh, and it still is a very inexpensive way to go. Ceramic tile is durable and easy to clean. Stainless steel and copper provide a clean and durable look to your backsplash. Many modern kitchens today have stainless steel appliances so be careful not to have too much and giving your kitchen a sterile look. Copper can be very beautiful and give your kitchen a rustic look but it will have to be clean often with copper cleaners. There are many stone options that make for a classic rich look to your kitchen. Options include marble, travertine, granite, and even slate.
Maximize natural light by having windows and skylights, and keep kitchen wall surfaces light in color to reflect daylight. Custom kitchen islands work great by using pendant or recessed fixtures to direct light onto the kitchen island and other work areas. Electrical codes will likely require that electrical outlets be located on the sides of fixed kitchen islands, not on the top, to prevent electrical shock.
